70 over 70
If, like me, you love a good podcast, I highly recommend this one, 70 Over 70, hosted by Max Linsky.
The tagline , “A show about how we make the most of the time we have left,” kind of gets under my skin a little bit, but that could just be the sensitive copy editor in me (LOL!) … Seriously though, why can’t it just be “A show about how we make the most of our time”? Language is powerful, and to me, “the time we have left” almost reads like a soft death knell in the distance. We all know that tomorrow is promised to nobody, regardless of age. We just don’t like to think about it.
That being said, I find the podcast, which premiered in May of last year, Stellar. The guests Linsky interviews include Sister Helen Prejean, Alice Waters, Dan Rather, Twiggy, and Nikki Giovanni, to name just a few. Each episode is full of nuggets of wisdom and insight. I always come away inspired.
Here’s a link to the trailer, where you’ll find more questionable (to my sensitive soul) language: “You know those 30 under 30 lists that make you feel kinda inadequate and terrible? 70 over 70 is the opposite of that.” Uhm, projection much, Mr. Linsky? I don’t know those ones but I do know those 30 under 30 lists that suggest (or infer) that 30 is a maximum age for brilliance. Is it me?
Okay, I’m done with my Language Rant of the Day. LOL! Go listen. Let’s discuss.
